Where to go in Asia
Asia has it all - bustling cities, superb beaches, interesting sights and cultures. If you can only pick one country, make it Thailand. Thailand just has something for everyone: perfect beaches, colourful temples, bustling cities, fun nature activities and great landscapes.
Bali is as good, and a perfect choice if you have limited time. You won't be the only one there, though. If you are after beaches minus the crowds, try Malaysia. For sightseeing, culture and nature, go to Laos, Burma/Myanmar and Cambodia - Angkor Wat, anyone? Vietnam again has everything, but is behind Thailand and Bali on our scale. Finally, if you find all this boring, try our more adventurous Indonesia itinerary.
Australia is a dream destination for many. The country offers great cities and outback experiences, and definitely has that 'far-away-from-home' feeling. It is easy to get around and everyone speaks English. All this makes Australia a perfect destination for first-time Backpackers - party on!
New Zealand sees a more mature crowd of visitors. New Zealand is nature, nature, nature - and some adrenaline kick in the form of Bungee jumps. Admission tickets for tourist attractions are pretty high, and many people travel around in the luxury of a campervan instead of a bus.
If this was Asia, then Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador would all be "same same but different". Ooops, we hope no-one there heard that. Well, there are differences, of course. Peru has great Inca sights, Bolivia has magnificent La Paz and the Salar de Uyuni, and Ecuador has the Galapagos Islands and Quito - the most charming capital of them all.
Chile definitely has a more western vibe, and interesting cities such as Santiago and Valparaíso. If you make it here, go all the way to Patagonia in the south!
