Note that prices of fiction books tend to be more similar, but it is still wise to shop around if you want to save some dollars. Many local bookstores also allow you to place special orders for books that are not in stock.
The bookshops in Singapore listed below offer all kinds of books, like fiction, non-fiction, business, academic titles and comics:
(1) Kinokuniya Singapore
With a wide range of books, Kinokuniya is a favourite bookshop in Singapore among lovers of Asian comics and magazines, English fiction and poetry readers, and also carries non-fiction, scientific, self-help and academic titles. The stationery section includes Japanese stationery, and there is a bustling Coffee Express café in the store.

Rest in peace, Borders. We still include the price check here. When look at the prices, you see one potential reason why people didn't buy as much as they had hoped... and eventually closed down.

PageOne’s Vivocity branch opened in 2006, and its artistic interior, resembling a boat rocking on the waves, carries lots of English and Chinese fiction and non-fiction books. Some of the books and DVDs on sale are hard to find locally.

(5) Popular Bookstore
Sells general fiction and non-fiction, though with a much smaller range compared to Kinokuniya and Borders. Many students have been to Popular to get their school textbooks, stationery, IT products and CDs. Its bookshops are located islandwide.

(6) MPH Bookstore (Singapore)
Established in 1815 in Malacca, MPH the book shop moved to Singapore in 1890 and is a well-established chain here, selling books, magazines, stationery, gifts and greeting cards.
(7) Harris
From its first outlet in Great World City, Harris has expanded to six outlets in just three years, selling an impressive variety of books for its age. The classic attracts the office crowd and students looking for novels, magazines, reference titles and children’s books.

Select Books is Singapore's best independent source of Southeast Asian books. Since 1976, this Singapore bookstore has been carrying a respectable collection of Asian books on Asian art, literature, cooking and food, travel and children's stories. Pick up books about Singapore and Southeast Asia that you may not be able to find elsewhere here; history and culture aficionados will enjoy the selection at this bookseller.
(9) OpenTrolley
OpenTrolley is an online bookstore in Singapore with a wide range of books, cheaper than at any other brick-and-mortar book store. Online bookshop orders are shipped within 1-2 weeks and less popular books are shipped in 2-4 weeks. Singpost registered mail delivery is S$4.98/order, and self-collection at Toy Outpost at Plaza Singapura is S$2.80/order.
