Hi everybody, I’m Daniel. I got my first computer (a C-64) at the age of nine and literally learnt programming in department stores, looking over the shoulder of older folks typing in unheard-of code into the display machines (remember peek and poke?). Much later, I studied Information Systems in Cologne (Germany) and got a Ph.D. in Operations Management in Ingolstadt (also Germany). I was among the first students to get a Uni-Cologne email-address – at that time, you had to go to a certain office, fill out a couple of forms by hand, sign them and wait… until you finally got your account. And afterwards, everybody who knew your email knew your grades as well, because both systems used the same identifier… Those were the times before GMail.
More than computers, I love to travel. I have been touring the world quite extensively. Now based in Singapore, my recent focus is on South-East Asia. Singapore is a perfect travel-hub for South-East Asia – lots of budget flights and interesting places to see. Not to forget the countless spots in Singapore and surroundings as well!
While I love traveling, I hate thick and heavy guidebooks. That’s why in late 2007, I quit my job in a semiconductor company to open Net Gecko Pte Ltd, which is the company behind GuideGecko. Our vision is to bring you better guides and travel-tips for every destination and topic you can think of.
It will be a long way. See you on the road!
