Add a Point to the Map

Dawsonville was one of several towns in the foothills of the Appalachians that sprang into being after gold was discovered near Dahlonega in 1828.

Today, it is a quiet town which draws tourists for its wildlife and peaceful lifestyle.Life was not always so peaceful there. This is the heart of Moonshine County where Scotch_Irish mountaineers matched wits with revenuers to keep their "corn liker" flowing. From this need for fast cars a new sport, NASCAR,  had its roots.  How fitting that Dawsonville's  best known citizen is Bill Elliot of NASCAR fame.
