Founded by Michael Hunter in 1985, Hunter Publishing began as a publisher of guides to unusual destinations, places for which little in-depth information was available. Often they were the only resource available to travelers.

Today, the aim of providing readers with unusual travel books persists, with books like the award-winning Adventure Guide to the Yucatan. But Hunter has also expanded its horizons and now produces a comprehensive range of travel guides to the Caribbean, the U.S., Europe, South America and the far reaches of the globe.

The Adventure Guides, Hunter's signature series, is rapidly carving out a niche on the bookshelves. The series encourages travelers to be active in exploring their destination through adventures both cultural and physical.
