Yoga has been practised in India through the ages, and South India is home to major schools of yoga. Mysore is one of the most popular centers for the teaching of yoga, while Bengaluru too has many centers.

The yoga courses are of different durations, and it is advisable to enrol beforehand, so you can apply for the relevant visa, which would allow you to stay for the stipulated time.

While Mysore has countless centers teaching yoga, the government approved main ones are:

Atma Vikasa Centre teaches yoga, Sanskrit and Meditation. Details at atmavikasayoga.com.

Shri Patanjali Yogashala is a yoga research institute at the Jagmohan Palace circle.

 The yoga courses are usually of a month's duration, and you have to book in advance.

If you are coming for the specific purpose of learning yoga, you can apply for a yoga visa. For that, you will require a letter from the school/teacher, confirming the admission and the number of months you will be studying there.
