Add a Point to the Map

Like most cities, Mysore has a number of heritage sites which can be covered by walks/guided tours. If you prefer, take a tonga or horse drawn carriage to imbibe the essence of the past. Horse carts are available near the railway station, zoo and palace. An hour’s ride past Sayyaji Rao Road and Jhansi Lakshmibai Road will take you past at least a dozen heritage buildings. Another route through Mysore university, DC office area and law courts will take you close to another dozen heritage centers that are still in use.

The popular guided walks are:

Royal walk (including palaces), Agrahara/Old city walk, Handicrafts walk (including emporia and antique shops) and Market walk.

Cycle tours are also becoming popular. Small groups of 8 are taken, and cycles, helmets and refreshments are provided.

Tips: Most of the tours begin in the morning. Dress in comfortable clothes and footwear, wear a cap (or carry an umbrella), carry drinking water, and don’t forget the camera!
