Add a Point to the Map

If you are in the Uttara Kannada district, visit the Anshi national park, once a part of Dandeli wildlife sanctuary to its north. It became a national park in 2003, and also brought under Project tiger. Anshi is close to Goa and Karwar beach.

The park has a number of waterfalls, springs and brooks, semi-evergreen and evergreen forests.

Wildlife: It is home to 200 species of birds, including the great pied and Malabar hornbill,  scarlet minivet, crested serpent eagle, brown fish owl, and the Ceylon frogmouth, an endangered bird. The mammals seen here include tiger, leopard, sloth bear, gaur, elephant, sambar, chital, the Malabar/Indian flying squirrel, langur, wild boar and barking deer.

Season: The best season is October to May, though one can visit at other times too, except for the heavy monsoon season.

Tip: The best place to stay is the Kali Adventure camp at Dandeli.

You can travel by road from Bengaluru, about 550 km, by rail to Dharwar and then by road.  You could also fly from Bangalore to Belgaum, 480 km, and then by road to the sanctuary.
