Don't expect bling or glam here; this street is in a completely different league from other shopping destinations such as Suria KLCC or Bukit Bintang Plaza. Bid your time, explore the larger Chinatown area before finally heading to Petaling Street post-sunset for that is when the vendors, people and tourists inject a genuine sense of activity and excitement into the experience, and, as they say, 'the place truly comes alive'. Besides, its much, much cooler at night too.

What can you find at Petaling street? Hundreds of stalls selling all kinds of things - fake designer products, pirated DVDs, electronics, camera equiptment and men and women's fashion, accessories and shoes. There's quite a bit of illegal acvitity happening on this fascinating street, and that includes the time-honoured tradition of ripping off tourists.

Bear in mind that all prices quoted at Petaling Street are 15% to 35% above selling price. And that gets even higher if you turn up at Petaling Street looking like you just stepped off a make-over show. In other words, dress down and don't wear anything that might give away your financial status.
