For many tourists a walk down Jonker Street is the highlight of their time in Melaka.

This narrow road is the heart of Melaka’s Chinatown area and lined with antique shops, art galleries, souvenir stalls, cafés, bars, and Chinese restaurants.

Every Friday night the road is closed to traffic and the entire street becomes a bustling street market with live music, great food, and lots of bargaining.

Even though everyone knows it as “Jonker Street”, its official name and the one that appears on road signs is Jalan Hang Jebat.
