Hey oodnyl, I haven't visited the Philippines as well. Hmm, you're right, it does have the culture, the food, shopping and the beautiful natural landscapes, why isnt it among the more popular destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and etc? Interesting point. Dyou think it could be the lack of tourism promotion?? Although I havent seen promotion for Vietnam and Indonesia either..

Steven, thanks for your recommendation. Looks like I'll be hitting Taiwan in between October to April. Might do that next year though since I've got limited leave days and funds remaining for this year and ive already got 2 trips planned ;).

Helloruby,

From October to April, south Taiwan has beautiful sunny but not unbearably hot weather. Winter in Taipei can be wet and miserable. The summer from May to early September is very hot and often has typhoons. Of course, the mountains are always cooler than the lowlands.

I would say Indonesia! There are plenty of places to venture aside from Jakarta, Bandung and Bali. The West Java is an upcoming destination especially for surfers as the waves are excellent! Getting around Indonesia might be a little tough but it isnt impossible.

I'm obviously biased, because I've lived in Taiwan for nearly 20 years and have written three books about the country, but I'm convinced Taiwan is the most underrated. It has incredible mountains, stunning biodiversity, and rich culture. Also, it's very safe for tourists, and it's becoming more and more convenient to get around.
