The climate in Munich is influenced by it's proximity to the Bavarian Alps.
Spring is mild but can be showery and unpredicatable. As May comes the cafe culture and beer gardens begin to open as the temperatures reach 15 degrees. Summers can be hot and temperatures can reach the 30's. It is then that people flock to the outdoor pools or swim in the river. Autumn is much the same as spring, warm days but chilly evenings but by the time October arrives frost is not unusual. Winters can be cold and temperatures may not rise above zero so remember to bring a warm coat, hat and gloves!
In late September, everything in Munich revolves around the Oktoberfest. Twelve thunderous guns salute the beginning of the Oktoberfest and the Mayor taps the first barrel to the cry “O’zapft is”. The waiters bring the first steins of beer, the bands start the music and the mighty Ferris wheel begins to turn.
Weather facts and figures:
Average hours of sunshine per year 2000
Summer days temperature over 25 deg 55
Summer days temperature over 30 deg 15
Average number of days rain 190
Subzero days 65
