If you're going to be spending some time in New York City, there are plenty of things to see and do. If you just stay for a weekend, you probably won't have enough time to do it all, but you can see some of the more important sights and destinations located in the Big Apple. Here are some of the "not to be missed" attractions in New York City.
The Empire State Building
It's a magnificent building, the tallest one in New York City, that can be seen from all around the city. Though it's a typical tourist destination, that doesn't make it any less interesting. You can travel all the way to the top and look out on the city below you for a great view. You'll also be astounded at how quiet the city seems from up so high.
Times Square
Times Square is the center of New York, and one of the most iconic places in the world. Spend some time just visiting the more popular shops and restaurants for a fun afternoon. If you really want to experience something special, look into getting theatre tickets for a play or musical on broadway. Most of the theatres are located in Times Square, and will provide you with entertainment you won't soon forget.
The Museums
There are so many different museums that you can visit in New York City, so choose the one that interests you the most. If you are into art, you should consider the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has a little bit of everything, or the Museum of Modern Art or the Guggenheim, both of which feature more modern artists. For those who are more into history, there's no better place than the Museum of Natural History. It's the place to go to see dinosaur bones, learn about different cultures, and see many of your favorite characters from the movie Night at the Museum!
Central Park
This Park is huge, and there is a lot to do there. Just exploring all of Central Park could probably take a full day, so be aware of what sections you might like to visit beforehand. If you're a Beatles fan, you'll want to see the tribute to John Lennon and the area known as Strawberry Fields. You can also choose to just go for a nice, peaceful stroll by one of the lakes, or sit down and enjoy a picnic that you've brought with you. There are also several restaurants located in or near Central Park, if you don't want to bother with bringing your own food. There's also usually some form of entertainment going on within the park, most of which is free - you never know what you might see, whether it's a concert, a play, or something else. There's also a zoo, which is a great place to bring the little ones.
