Pakse (Pakxe) is a city in the Champasak province of Southern Laos. It's one of the biggest towns in Laos and a major transportation hub for southern Laos.
The city is pretty small, and you can walk around the whole town in a day. Buildings are mostly quite rundown, and it seems like the city started developing about 30-40 years ago and stopped without further developments.
Most visitors use the town as a base to visit Bolaven Plateau or Si Phan Don. However, do note that most of the shops do not accept US Dollars unless you are dining in a hotel.
There are many ATMs around the town where you can withdraw Kip (Laos currency), and you can also exchange US Dollars to Kip at many hotels. The exchange rate is about 1 US Dollar to 8000 Kip as the point of writing.
Describe the main aspects of Pakxe in general. Write in the 2nd person ('go there/when we went' instead of 'I went/this writer went/one can go'). Tell it as it is, but stick to the facts. Restaurant,
Hotel and
other listings shall NOT be entered here; create a
new listing instead.
