Potsdam is a friendly town with tourists and foreigners in general. The town is not so big - but either so small - and getting lost is almost impossible, although you don't know the language. Arrows and touristic signs are all over the places, mostly in the touristic area. In public transportation, the important stations for tourists are told in English. All over the day and the year, buses with tourists for all over the world are landing here so it's not hard to survive in a very international environment.
