The former summer palace of the Prussian king Frederick the Great, Sanssouci (a French name meaning 'carefree') was considered a rival of Versailles. The luxuriant rococo style and the exuberant constructions hidden in the woods are offering a permanent emotion of discovering new places and new corners. Built between 1745 and 1747 it was aimed to offer a private and quiet residence away of Berlin.

The place continued to play an important role for the history of Potsdam also after World War II, when the palace was fully maintained and open to the public.

The perfect time to visit the park is during the spring when the trees and flowers are blossoming. Situated on a hill overlooking the town, the castle and the park are offering you one of the best cultural and historical experience of the city with its past, present and future. A visit here could last for hours, as you have a long list of places to discover: Neues Palais at the western end of the park; the Orangerie; the castle with its rococo interior, the Marble Hall and the concert room; the Dutch Garden.

Yearly, almost 2 million people are discovering or rediscovering the mysterious ways of a life without concerns, free to live and to leave.
