PUTTING ALL LISTINGS ON ONE PAGE PER EACH DISTRICT WITHIN A CITY GUIDE

Case Study: I was told to go to Santa Monica Travel Guide (http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/santa-monica-travel-guide/p,608175888) to "add text with in-text links" that would show up under "Want to see more?" on the Santa Monica Travel Guide page.

What I did: (On Santa Monica Travel Guide page) went to "Add Something" created new section "Santa Monica Getting Around" (http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/santa-monica-get-around/p,608175888,160) clicked "Add Description" and as a test just inserted a link for Angel's Attic (confirmed live) but it didn't make the listing show up at the bottom of the Santa Monica Travel Guide page under "Want to See More?" Did I misunderstand?

One more tip: "Like" the districts where you have added a description, then these will be listed at the top on http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/travel-guide/sd,174083,5.

Hi Terry, thanks for waiting.

We have solved the issue with Venice. It is now listed, and the direct link is here: http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/venice-travel-guide/p,608172765

I just attempted to create Venice as a district; message says it's already created, but it's not showing in the directory.

We experimented with putting all links on one page automatically, but decided against it. We prefer the current solution because in the description text, you can add much more info than just links. It can now be a true "highlights section".

Not sure what you mean regarding Venice. All Districts you created are listed at http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/travel-guide/sd,174083,5 (see page 1 and 2). I suppose you haven't created the District "Venice" yet?

OK, I get it, though it seems there would be a more "time friendly" way to combine all listings into one district. In the case of L..A., it is so huge to do this manually, even if I'm not doing all of them. Still have Venice, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Mid-City, Hollywood, and Downtown.

You have all the separate district pages I require for L.A., except for Venice. Would you add Venice to the directory when you can?

Hi Terry,

Let me go back one step and start from the beginning:

You want to add links to certain (or all) listings within a district. These links shall be placed on one page, so that the reader gets an overview of the district AND its restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc, on ONE page.

The way to do this is to use "Districts".

Each district can have its own listings (e.g. restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc).

You have already done this for Los Angeles. For example, you have created a District "Santa Monica" in Los Angeles, and have placed Listings in this District. That's good.

Each District has its own Section pages. There is a main page (for the "Travel Guide" Section) and pages for each Section (e.g. "Restaurants and Eating" or "Hotels and Sleeping").

For example, the main page for the Santa Monica District ("Santo Monica Travel Guide") is at:
http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/santa-monica-travel-guide/p,608175888

You can (and should) add description texts DIRECTLY on these Section pages. To do this, click on "Add Description" directly on that page.
In the description text, you should give a general overview of the District, and add in-text links to the listings. You can add as many links as you like.

When you add a description text on this page (http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/santa-monica-travel-guide/p,608175888), a direct link to that page will automatically appear on the City page. That is, a link to Santa Monica will appear on http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles.

As an overall example, see http://www.guidegecko.com/singapore-travel-guide.

You will find direct links to Singapore's Districts on this page, under "Areas/Districts in Singapore".

I hope this clarifies it!

Note 1: For example, the Section page for "Santa Monica Restaurants and Eating" is at http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/santa-monica-travel-guide/p,608175888.

Note that on all of these Section pages, we automatically include a map and links to the Listings within this Section. Therefore, you don't need to do this. You can, however, add a description text pointing out the best restaurants. This is optional, see Note 2 below.

--
Note 2: Since you mention the URL http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/santa-monica-get-around/p,608175888,160.

This is the Section page for "Santa Monica Getting Around". This is where you may add an overview text on how to get around in Santa Monica (to do this, click on "Add Description" directly on that page). I have now removed the Link you added there.

For smaller Districts, I usually recommend to keep these Section pages empty (except for the main "Travel Guide" Section for the District). Readers find it more important to get an overview for the complete city. Therefore, I recommend adding a description text for "LOS ANGELES Getting Around" instead of "SANTA MONICA Getting Around").

"Los Angeles Getting Around" is at http://www.guidegecko.com/los-angeles/get-around/p,174083,160 (click on "Add Description" directly on that page).
