Add a Point to the Map

This relatively small museum is located along Upper Changi Road North and was opened in 2001. It is a grim reminder that the devastation of war also touched the small island of Singapore. The museum grounds house the Changi Museum as well as a replica of the original Changi Chapel.

The Changi Museum is dedicated to those who suffered during World War II. In the museum, you will be able to see original letters, photographs, drawings and personal belongings of the prisoners-of-war and civilian internees held at Changi Prison during the war.

Particularly poignant is the wall of 'Defenders of Singapore' located near the entrance. On this wall, you will discover the soldiers of many other nations that tried to defend Singapore during the war. It is interesting to note that not all the foreign defenders were soldiers from commonwealth countries so they did not need to stay to defend Singapore as she was a British colony at the time.

Some other highlights of the museum include the Changi Murals and an original prison door. The Changi Murals were painted by a prisoner on the walls of the original chapel to help keep the morale of the prisoners up. There are some very touching stories of heroic deeds during the war as well as pretty graphic images of the sufferings endured. Located in the middle of the museum is a replica of the original chapel. There are audio tours available for rental at the entrance to the museum as well.
