The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) presents visitors with a broad exposure to various Asian civilisations. The museum's exhibits and artefacts aim to showcase the different cultures that make up Singapore's multi-racial society.

Comprising 8 galleries and located along the picturesque Singapore River, the ACM features over 1300 artefacts from different regions in Asia, as well as special exhibitions that change throughout the year.

Tickets are $8 for adults and concession ticket prices of $4 for students and seniors, with the option fo purchasing an $11 ($5.50 for concession) ticket which grants entry to both the ACM and the Peranakan Museum.

The Singapore River Gallery describes the lives and activities of early traders and merchants who came to the Singapore River to conduct their business activities; a diverse group of European traders, indigenous coolies and Chinese businessmen could often be seen working by the river.

Move on to the Southeast Asia galleries, which cover 2500 years of Southeast Asian history. Visitors are able to find out about the multitude of religious beliefs and trade in commodities that characterised the region's development.

Finish up with the West Asia/Islamic, China and South Asia galleries for perspectives about Judaism and Islam, the lives of Chinese officials and the various communities that hailed from  the Indian sub-continent respectively.

The museum has certain sections with "talking heads", where a person's face on a video screen will begin talking to you about their experiences after your museum entry pass is scanned. There are also booklets placed in front of certain exhibits providing detailed information and pictures.

What the museum lacks, however, is a comprehensive audio guide with a database of stored information; reading lengthy passages of text takes away from the experience of going to a museum and enjoying the exhibits on offer.
