Types of Courses Available

Visitors to Singapore can also get the opportunity to sign up for the different courses available. Most of the courses require a commitment of at least four to five weeks but there are short-term courses as well.

Cooking Classes                         

The most popular type of classes among tourists visiting Singapore is cooking classes, because of the availability of short-term classes. Most of the classes usually range from half-day classes to full-day classes. For those who are in Singapore for a longer period of time, there are classes for eight weeks as well.

Another important reason for their popularity is that there are classes for almost all kinds of cuisine. Visitors can learn how to whip up their own local delights like laksa or bake cupcakes for dessert.

Cooking classes like those run by Coriander Leaf offer lessons in cuisine ranging from Italian to Thai to Vietnamese. Prices for these classes are not cheap and range from S$50 to S$130 per person. Longer classes cost more.

Language Classes

There are a number of language centres located throughout Singapore that offers classes in different languages. Most of these classes require a commitment of at least eight weeks so it is more suitable for long-term visitors.

There are a few intensive courses that can be completed in two weeks but classes are more frequent. German classes are available at the Goethe-Institut Singapur, where there are intensive two week classes, and the German Centre.

The Alliance Francaise de Singapour offers a number of different classes on French. For those looking to learn Chinese, Malay or other Asian languages, there are language centres located throughout the island but always check clearly before signing up for classes as some of them may not be very good. Prices for the courses can range from S$265 to S$600.

Dance Classes

Dance classes have gained in popularity in recent times in Singapore and the number of classes available has been increasing. Available courses can range from Tango to Salsa to Bellydancing. Classes usually do not require a strict commitment after the first lesson so it is suitable for visitors who wish to pick up some basic dance moves.

The classes are also relatively short at an average of 15 minutes to 1 hour per week. Dance courses are relatively cheap and fees can range from S$80 to $90 for 5 lessons. Courses which involve more lessons are more expensive.
