East Coast Park is one of the most popular spots in Singapore on weekends. Opened in the 1970s, it is also one of the longest stretches of beach in Singapore, measuring almost 20 kilometres. Having the title of the largest park in Singapore, it is built entirely on reclaimed land with a man-made beach. Barbeque pits can be found all along the park and it is a common sight to see groups of teenagers or families enjoying a barbeque on weekends.

There are also many eating places along the park like the East Coast Lagoon Food Centre for those who might feel a little hungry while strolling through the park. Cycling, inline skating, jogging and walking tracks that run along the length of the park has resulted in the park becoming a popular location for sporting activities. Bicycle rentals and rollerblade rentals are also readily available along the park. There is also a cable-ski centre located at the Park called Ski360.

Weekend mornings would see the park filled with locals and foreigners engaged in some form of sporting activity along the park. The beach can be relatively dirty and is thus not an ideal place to suntan. Most locals head on over to the beaches at Sentosa to suntan due to the relatively more dirty beach at East Coast Park and also the fact that there are many trees which block the sun. However, if you fancy a dip in the waters off East Coast beach, note that there are shower facilities located at regular intervals along the Park but these facilities are usually more for a rinse-down than a proper shower as they are communal showers. Toilets are also located at these facilities.

Best time to visit would be on a weekday evening when there is less of a crowd and you can enjoy the sunset. To get to East Coast Park, visitors can take bus service number 401 from Bedok Interchange but note that the service is only available on weekends. A more convenient way would be to take a taxi.

Directions

Take a taxi as the bus service is not very frequent.
