North Bridge Road is a long stretch of road where one can find numerous South Indian Muslim eateries like Islamic Restaurant and Singapore Zam Zam here. It is one of the oldest roads in Singapore, built by convict labor. In the past, there were traditionally dressed Muslim men and women as one walks along North Bridge Road. The men would be dressed in long sarongs while the women would be dressed in long robes and fascinating shawls.
Today however, as people grew modern, the dressing has changed in tandem. Similarly, most of the shop houses along North Bridge Road underwent renovations and refurbishment. The rest of the old shops shifted away and modern-looking eateries have sprouted up in their places.
One of the few stores that continue to be around in North Bridge Road since the early days of Kampong Glam however is Jamal Kazura Aromatics, a fragrance shop stocks an extensive collection of oil-based perfumes and perfume bottles.
