Add a Point to the Map

Many bus companies in Singapore are concentrated at Golden Mile Complex, which also serves as a long distance bus terminal. The other terminals are Lavendar Street Bus Terminal (mainly for Malacca, but Transnasional also serves other cities in Malaysia from there) and Queen Street Bus Terminal (for Johor Bahru).

Your coach to Singapore will most likely drop you at one of these terminals, but as if three terminals weren't enough, some companies operate from yet other locations. However, these companies would typically have an office at Golden Mile Complex or the Lavendar MRT Station.

Tickets

Some bus companies are just a simple shop without a website, while some are well-recognised brands with good customer service. Most of them can help you with getting a seat on a bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malacca, Genting, Penang, Cameron Highlands and other places in Malaysia.

The easiest way to purchase a ticket for a coach from Singapore is to shop around at the terminals. You will find plenty of agencies and coach offices, especially at Golden Mile complex.

Out of the many bus travel companies we visited, we personally liked Grassland Express and StarMart Express Air Liners for their friendly service.

Grassland Express

Grassland Express is a bus company in Singapore providing coach, hotels, tours and cruise services.

For coach services to Malaysia, it departs from Golden Mile Complex to Kuala Lumpur (KL), Penang and Malacca.

Grassland Express Departure Times

  • Singapore-KL ($35; 5 hours; departs at  7am, 7:45am, 9am, 9:45am, 10:45am, 12pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 5:30pm, 8:30pm, 7pm, 9:15pm, 9:45pm, 11:30pm)
  • Singapore-Penang ($50; 9 hours; departs at 9:45pm, 10pm)
  • Singapore-Malacca ($25; 5 hours; departs at 7:30 pm)

Grassland Express' branch at Boon Lay Shopping Centre is the pick-up point to go to Ipoh and Butterworth.

  • Singapore-Ipoh ($45; 9 hours; departs at 9am, 10:45am, 12pm)

The Grassland Coach

Grassland Coach is Grassland Express' luxury travel option. The Super VIP has one common TV, 26 seats. The more costly Royal VIP provides individual LCD TVs, is more spacious with extra legroom, 20 seats. Both are either single/double decker coaches.

The staff at Grassland Express answered politely to queries and you can buy tickets from the office directly.

StarMart Express Air Asia Liners

StarMart Express Air Asia Liner offers tour packages, air ticketing, visa application, travel insurance, worldwide hotel reservation other than coach services. Its service includes providing a bus from KL to Singapore.

StarMart Express Air Asia Liners Departure Times

The company departs from Golden Mile Complex to Kuala Lumpur (KL), Penang-Butterworth, Taiping and Malacca.

The StarMart Express Air Asia Liner Coach

StarMart Express uses the red-white “executive snoozer coach” with two common LCD TVs. It is either single deck 27 seats, or double deck, 38 seats. Purchase tickets directly at the office with the friendly staff who helped me willingly with queries.

Others Coaches in Singapore

The Grassland Express and StarMart Express coach agencies are recommended for their customer service. Others bus companies that you may try include Kwang Chow Travel, Phya Travel and Golden Coach Express.

If you are going to more off-the-beaten track destinations in Malaysia, try Transnasional, which has the widest network by far.
