Interactive and educational, Science Centre Singapore is a scientific institution-cum-museum with 16 different permanent galleries exhibiting on subjects such as The Human Body, Nano Technology, Genome project, and Energy.
This is a good place for kids where one can easily spend an entire day at. Most of the galleries are located indoors in an air-conditioned hexagon-like building except for the playground-cum-physics sculptured Kinetic Garden, the serene EcoGarden, and the wet and informative Waterworks.
It is easy to navigate through the building as it centers at the Atrium where the must-see Tesla Coil Demonstration is situated and held.
If you are visiting Science Centre Singapore, be sure to check out their relatively new Sound Exhibition and Mathematics Everywhere and Everyday Exhibition which opened in 2009. The Metal Grass Exhibit at Sound Exhibition in particular is a must-see as it features iron dust particles which dance differently according to the music played.
Take note to bring along a change of clothes and swimwear as the Waterworks Exhibition will certainly create a splash and leave one wet as you explore the importance of water.
Science Centre Singapore was opened in 1977 and has emerged as a locally renowned institution in the field of education. Mostly locals, in particular school groups, visit it. Stop by at the Omni-Theatre nearby for a movie or short documentary.
A handful of cafes and eateries and a gift shop, Curiousity is located in the vicinity. Food served may be a little pricey, except at McDonald’s, which is located at the entrance, so one may want to pack a picnic.
