Add a Point to the Map

The Apollo Theatre is a fascinating example of Karoo history. It is the only remaining movie theatre left in the area.  It was built in the 1920’s but closed in 1981.  The Apollo Development Association was formed to conserve the theatre and several  movie festivals have been held there.  A variety of local South African movies and documentaries were shown.

It is a continual struggle to keep the theatre going and all donations from visitors are welcome.  Unfortunately, commercial Hollywood movies are too expensive for a theatre in such a small town to show.  There are plans to open a cafe in the entry area of the theatre serving light meals and snacks.

It is to be hoped that the theatre can continue to be supported and restored to its former glory.  It would be a pity to lose this piece of history.
